Repairers of consumer goods note: repairs affected by the Australian Consumer Law

New regulations under the Australian Consumer law introduced in July this year provide added protection to consumers engaging third parties to carry out repairs to their goods, being goods used for ordinary domestic or household use under $40,000.

Consumers must now be notified in writing, by repairers if their damaged goods are to be replaced or repaired with refurbished goods or parts.

Where electrical goods require repair, repairers are now also required to notify consumers if there is a chance that their data, such as songs, photos and documents, could be lost during repair.
